Trying out his new quilt - Welcome home Lourenço!

I feel exhausted but so relieved! It's over. His kidney is now functioning and I hope I don't have to give it another thought. Thank you. All of you. For your words of support, care, love and friendship. For holding my hand and making it all a bit easier. We are finally home!! After six days in hospital we are home!!

He is back to his old self: full of energy and eager for attention! Perfect time to spread out the Hourglass Quilt I made for him and let him use it as a play mat for the time being. I think he liked it! And so do I, specially the striped binding! It's time to breath and reboot...Welcome home Lourenço!

Sinto-me estoirada mas tão aliviada! Acabou. O rim dele já funciona perfeitamente e espero não ter de pensar mais no assunto. Obrigada. A todos. Por todas as palavras de apoio, carinho, amor e amizade. Por segurarem a minha mão e fazerem com que tudo fosse um pouco mais fácil. Estamos finalmente em casa! Depois de seis dias no hospital, estamos em casa!

Nem pareçe que foi operado: está cheio de energia e sequioso de atenção! É a altura perfeita para colocar o Hourglass Quilt que lhe fiz a uso como tapete para as suas brincadeiras, pelo menos por enquanto. Acho que ele gostou! E eu também, em especial do viés ás riscas! Agora já posso respirar e recomeçar....Bem-vindo Lourenço!

Going to the Hospital

Tomorrow we are taking my baby boy to the hospital for kidney surgery. I am scared. Scared beyond belief. When I sat down to write this post I suddenly remembered something I had read a few months ago, way before I started blogging -" when writing posts one should try to avoid unpleasant or sad events". I stopped punching the keyboard and started wondering whether to write it or not. I actually started feeling a bit angry. Why shouldn't I write about it?? After all this blog isn't just about my passion for sewing and quilting. It's also about me, family, loved ones, friends, happy things and not so happy things. This is me. This is real and this is what is happening in my life right now.

Yes, tomorrow we are going to the hospital. Lourenço is going to have to go through surgery and my all being is aching. I want it all to happen in a split second. I want him home so we can look at the blue sky, wrapp him up in his baby quilt I made, count how many lemons are on our lemon tree, watch daddy grilling a fish for lunch, play with the cats and witness all the good things about life!

Amanhã vamos levar o Lourenço para o hospital para ser operado a um rim. Estou cheia de medo. Incrivelmente cheia de medo. Quando me sentei para escrever esta mensagem lembrei-me de repente que tinha lido algures na internet, muito antes de iniciar o meu Blog que "deveríamos evitar escrever mensagens com conteúdos desagradáveis e pesarosos". Parei de escrever e comecei a ponderar sobre se deveria escrever ou não. Na realidade comecei a sentir-me zangada. Porque não deveria escrever sobre isto?? Afinal de contas o blog não se centra exclusivamente na minha paixão por costura e quilting. Também dá a conhecer a minha pessoa, a minha família, os que amo, os amigos, acontecimentos felizes e acontecimentos menos felizes. Sou eu e a minha realidade. E neste momento é isto que está a acontecer.

Sim, amanhã vamos para o hospital. O Lourenço vai ser sujeito a uma cirurgia e todo o meu ser dói. Quero que tudo aconteça num abrir e fechar de olhos. Quero traze-lo para casa para podermos olhar o céu azul, para embrulha-lo no quilt que lhe fiz, para contar-mos quantos limões tem o nosso limoeiro, ver o pai a grelhar um peixe para o almoço, brincarmos com os gatos e presenciar tudo de bom que a vida tem para oferecer!

An Award...!?!!

I just got an email from SnipettFact.com telling me my Blog won an award in their Sewing category. Apparently SewingSophia was awarded for the following reasons and I quote : "Accurate and precise informational content. Interesting and inviting layout and/or writing style. Reliable source for trustworthy content. Unique and entertaining information." end quote.

My day hasn't been that good, am feeling a bit tired, it's 10.30pm and I still have a few things to do before going to bed. For all it's worth at least it put a smile on my face and brighten my mood a bit. So I guess THANKS are in order!

Acabei de receber um email de SnippetFact.com a dizer que o meu Blog ganhou um prémio na categoria de Costura. Aparentemente, SewingSophia ganhou por: " Conteúdo informativo fiel e exacto. O meu dia não me estava a correr propriamente bem, estou a sentir-me um pouco cansada, são 22h30 e ainda tenho coisas para fazer antes de me deitar. Pode não significar nada mas pelo menos fez-me sorrir e melhorou a minha disposição, por isso, OBRIGADA!

Happy Monday!!

7a.m and we were up! Lourenço had his bottle of milk and I was in dire need of a cup of coffee. I find the early mornings a bit tough but Lourenço usually wakes up in a good mood and happy to play with his toys in the cot. We were getting ready to go to the doctor for his routine checkup: he gets weighed and measured and poked around a bit and he behaved like a champ! Yes it’s Monday and the beginning of yet another week, the rain has stopped, the sun is shining outside, hopefully I’ll have some spare time to sew and my baby will be 8 months tomorrow ! Happy days…

7 da manhã e já estávamos acordados! O Lourenço bebeu o seu biberão e eu estava a precisar desesperadamente de um café. São estas manhãs espertinas que me custam mais mas normalmente o Lourenço acorda de bom humor e contente por brincar com os seus brinquedos na cama de rede. Estávamos a aprontarmo-nos para ir ao médico para uma consulta de rotina: ele é pesado, medido, mexido aqui e ali, mas hoje portou-se lindamente! É segunda-feira e mais um começo de uma semana pela frente. A chuva parou, o sol brilha lá fora, pode ser que consiga ter um tempinho livre para coser e amanhã o meu bébé faz 8 meses! Dias felizes...

I think they are just perfect to give a special touch to Christmas wrappings, jam and cookie jars that I plan to give, among so many other things! Am thinking of printing holiday messages on the labels and hang them on my Christmas tree with a pretty ribbon!

Encontrei estas etiquetas num estilo vintage da Cathe Holden que são lindíssimas e que podem ser impressas de forma fácil e GRÁTIS. Acho que são perfeitas para dar um toque especial nos embrulhos de Natal, frascos de compota e biscoitos que planeio oferecer este ano, e muitas outras coisas mais! Estava a pensar em imprimir mensagens de natal nas etiquetas e pendurar na árvore com uma fita bonita!
