I nearly
collapsed this past week when I took my sewing machine to be repaired and the technician
told me it was going to cost…well…A LOT!!! My machine is quite old ( 25 years
to be exact ) and it was a gift for my mother hoping to turn her into a
domestic goddess but she took one look
at it and said - ”hmmm..I don’t think so!” Many years passed and the sewing
machine lay forgotten in a cupboard, until I discovered my passion for the
craft and it was given to me. The price for the repair was too just too
high and I came home with my sewing machine still broken. That day I felt a bit of despair, but luckily I
have friends who also sew and one of them had a spare, which I am
using now!! I am able to breath and sew again…!
Quase que desmaiei esta semana quando levei a minha máquina de costura para ser reparada e o técnico me disse que a reparação ia ficar em...bem...NUMA FORTUNA!! A minha máquina já é bem "velhinha" ( 25 anos para ser mais precisa) e foi oferecida à minha mãe pelo na esperança que ela se transformasse numa fada do lar, mas ela olhou bem para a ela e disse - "hmmm...nem pensar!". Muitos anos passaram e a máquina ficou esquecida num canto de um armário até que eu descobri a minha paixão pela costura e afins e a máquina passou para as minhas mãos. O preço que o técnico pediu pelo arranjo era muito alto e regressei com a minha máquina avariada para casa. Felizmente tenho amigas que também se deliciam com a costura e uma delas emprestou-me uma máquina de costura que tinha a mais! Agora já posso respirar, e coser outra vez...!
So, after
what felt like a looooooong time without sewing I am able to continue with my
hourglass quilt! Before my machine broke
down I was still able to finish all my hourglass blocks. Having done that, I lay them out on the floor ( my dining room
table was just not big enough!) in the order I wanted them to be sewn together.
I took a picture just to be on the safe
side, pinned the first block of each row with the row number (that way you can never go wrong), and continued with my work of sewing blocks, rows of blocks and quilting.
All there is left to do is the binding! It is indeed very fulfilling! At least
for me, it is!
